The Coinbase Wallet Extension is a self-custody wallet built as a browser extension for Chrome, Brave, and other Chromium-based browsers. It enables direct interaction with decentralized apps (dApps), token swaps, NFTs, DeFi protocols, and more — all from your desktop without relying on Coinbase's custodial platform
Full Self-Custody: You, and only you, control your private keys. Coinbase does not store the 12-word recovery phrase
Web3 Access: Seamless integration with dApps like Uniswap, OpenSea, Aave, Compound, and more
Multi-Network Support: Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Optimism, and other EVM-compatible chains. You can also add custom networks and tokens manually
Built-In Token Swap: Swap tokens within the extension using DEX aggregators, control gas fees, and set slippage tolerance
NFT Viewing & Management: See and manage your NFT collections directly within the wallet
Navigate to the Chrome Web Store (or Brave store).
Search for “Coinbase Wallet Extension” and verify the developer is coinbase.com.
Click “Add to Chrome” (or Brave) and confirm the installation
After installation, click the Coinbase icon in your browser toolbar to launch setup
Create a New Wallet: Get a new 12‑word recovery phrase. Write it down and store it offline. Set a password and a username (used for receiving funds)
Import Existing Wallet: Import from mobile Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Phantom, Solflare, or others using your recovery phrase or by connecting a Ledger device
Sync with Mobile: You can choose to link your Coinbase Wallet mobile app to the extension for shared access and unified management
Only download from official sources. Firefox has experienced fraudulent impersonations of wallet extensions—avoid installing crypto wallet extensions from Firefox add-ons store
Never share your recovery phrase online. Coinbase staff or any dApp will never ask for it.
Limit extension permissions. If performance issues occur, consider setting site access to “On Click” or disabling the extension temporarily.
Be cautious of phishing dApps. Only interact with trusted websites and verify domain authenticity.
From Reddit feedback:
“Chrome Browser extension is no longer available…” — Temporary issues may occur; the mobile app works in the meantime
“Disable the CB wallet extension … change site access to On Click” — Helps resolve compatibility issues across dApp sites
This walkthrough shows how to install, setup, and link the wallet to dApps efficiently.
The Coinbase Wallet Extension offers an official, secure, and powerful Web3 gateway for desktop users. Always download from trusted sources, follow best security practices, and stay in control of your crypto assets.
